Functionality
The FailSafeTester is much more than just a simple breakout box. It enables the generation of the following electrical faults:
- Interruption (cable breakage)
- Loose contact
- resistance (corrosion)
- Short circuit (with ground and with other cables)
- Shunt (leakage current)
The principal characteristics of the hardware are:
- Modular, customizable and expandable system: 8 to 160 channels in one box (controller card, backplane, 20 slots) Multiple chassis configuration possible, thereby allowing an unlimited number of channels.
- Modular architecture allows easy expansion and change across different applications and test requirements.
Hardware
- Can break every signal under software control
- Can connect every signal to any other signal - either directly or via programmable resistor
- Completely programmable, no need for manual patching, therefore tests can be completely automated
- Complete test configuration can be stored and reloaded under software control
- The FailSafeTester can be controlled as wished via CANbus or V24-interface
- Handle more than 100 signals? - No problem!
- Handle 42v-signals? - No problem!
- 30A high current signals? - No problem!
- Programmable resistor range 1 Ohm - 1 MOhm
- Up to 160 channels in one box, yet extremely compact

Software
- Easy programming via scripting language
- Managing the channels is intuitive

- The interactive user interface of the FailSafeTester is perfectly integrated in IPG's CarMaker/HIL environment
- In a CarMaker/HIL environment, control of the FailSafeTester can be course-controlled and time-controlled
Cards available:
- Controller Card, CAN and serial interface, 3 signal ports, easy firmware update
- 8 channels standard relay card (12V/3A; 50V/1A)
- 4 channels high current relay card (12V/30A)
- Programmable resistor card, 1 Ohm to 1 MOhm software adjustable, with electronic overload protection
- High speed switch card
- Self diagnostic card, automatic testing of all cards, checking all relays, programmable resistors, signal ports and backplane
4 different variants of housings available:
- desktop case, direct access to the insert cards
- desktop case, deeper installation of the cards, with central connector
- for 19 rack mounting, direct access to the insert cards
- for 19 rack mounting, deeper installation of the cards, with central connector Controlled by a controller, communication with the controller via CAN or serial interface 3 signal ports, can be connected via software with every signal, making electrical access to all signals possible.
