Setup
Host computer
You configure, control and analyze the HIL tests interactively on your PC with the user interface of CarMaker, MotorcycleMaker or TruckMaker. Or you can automate tests using ScriptControl.
Real-time computer
The simulation models of driver, vehicle, road and traffic are calculated on a computer with a Linux real-time operating system. It offers hard real-time operation of the simulation and provides all necessary services such as a direct read and write file access from the real-time computer to the host PC. Amongst others, this direct file access enables very fast turn-around times when changing parameters or models and offers the possibility to read or to change variables on the PC during the running simulation. Besides x86 processors (single or multi core processor) the real-time computer contains different I/O modules to measure and generate I/O signals.
Plug-In TestBox
The Plug-In TestBox for the ECUs contains the signal conditioning for the controllers and real loads, e.g. the magnetic valves of the ESP hydraulics. Depending on the requirements, the HIL TestSystems contain one or multiple Plug-In TestBoxes for the ECUs. The single ECUs are networked with each other via CAN, LIN, FlexRay or Ethernet.
FailSafeTester
The integration of the FailSafeTester in the test system offers an optimal solution for the simulation of electrical faults. The FailSafeTester can be equipped with different cards to simulate diverse types of faults.
Typical application areas
Comprehensive HIL testing of chassis and drive train controllers
- Performance tests: Testing the controller performance under normal driving operation, at the driving limits or in the case of defective mechanical components (e.g. flat tires)
- Diagnosis tests: Reproducing and testing the ECU diagnosis, automated flashing of new application parameter sets
- Simulation of electrical faults: Automated testing of circuit faults, e.g. cable break, short-circuit or shunts
- Network tests: suppress, delay or modify single bus messages e.g. of the CAN
- Functional tests under fail-safe operation: Testing the vehicle reactions in the case of different types of failures, e.g. braking in a turn with failing ESP functionality
- Objective validation of the driving behavior by meaurements
