Advantages of a Thermomechanical Tire Model for Vehicle Dynamics
The TameTire model developed by Michelin represents a breakthrough in vehicle dynamics simulation.
The module by IPG has been integrated into its CarMaker simulation platform and extended by new functions. Even at a very early development stage, the tire can be incorporated into the parameter space of the vehicle-tire interaction, both for achieving targets and for tolerance studies.

The impending mandatory fitting of heavy commercial vehicles with electronic stability control and other advanced driver assistance systems in the European Union will result in a dramatic increase in development, testing and certification requirements. Highly capable simulation tools have been specifically designed to handle the enormous complexity of simulation to complement conventional realworld tests. Haldex and IPG Automotive achieved the first successful simulationbased homologation according to the requirements of the ECE 13/11 regulations.

The thermal and mechanical tyre model TameTire, developed by Michelin, represents a new breakthrough in tyre modelling to simulate handling. IPG has integrated TameTire into its leading-edge CarMaker vehicle dynamics simulation platform. This article looks at the advantages which TameTire provides over state-of-the-art mathematical models for handling simulation, as well as its integration into IPG CarMaker.
