On July 9, 2024, IPG Automotive Korea successfully hosted Open House Korea 2024 in Seoul.

We enjoy looking back on an eventful day packed with numerous highlights. Did you miss Open House Korea?
Do you want to recall the highlights of the event?

This page gives you an overview.

Welcome and introduction

Mr. Changhoon Nam, Managing Director of IPG Automotive Korea, officially opened the event with a welcome speech. He introduced the participants to the company's development history over the past 40 years and extended a heartfelt welcome to all the attendees.

Sessions and use case presentations

Session 1: Transformation of Workflows – from Test Track to Cloud Nine

This year, after the official introduction of the Virtual Vehicle Development Tool Suite VIRTO at Open House Germany 2023, Michael Kochem (IPG Automotive GmbH), Sami Bilgic Istoc (IPG Automotive GmbH) and Donghwan Kim (IPG Automotive Korea) demonstrated solution approaches for future vehicle testing during development. Based on the conventional automobile, they presented four exemplary processes and using VIRTO to transform them. In this way, participants could experience live how digital workflows enable to map workflows step by step.

Session 2: CarMaker 13 and Data-Driven Development

In the second session of Open House Korea, Oliver Windau (IPG Automotive GmbH) highlighted different application possibilities of CarMaker in the data-driven development flow for AV stacks in autonomous vehicles. In addition to the procedural generation and variation of scenarios on a large scale, he also provided a first insight into the area Research & Innovation at IPG Automotive focusing on the subject of synthetic data generation for machine learning.

Session 3: Real-Time Testing with CarMaker and AV-in-the-Loop Turn-key solutions

Automated driving has caused a strong shift in technology development towards software, and it thus increasingly influences methods and processes. During the second session, Florian Weindel (IPG Automotive GmbH) presented a variety of options that CarMaker and TruckMaker offer for scenario-based testing of level 3+ functions to master the challenges of software-defined vehicles.

Session 4: SIL Development Environment Using CarMaker Office and vECU

In the final session, Siwoo Park, Senior engineer of IPG Automotive Korea, highlighted that using CarMaker's Restbus configuration for integrated CAN environment settings offers advantages such as consistent test environment maintenance, improved efficiency, increased reusability and enhanced test coverage. This approach enables reliable testing and automated processes from a CT perspective, which drew significant interest from the attendees.

Use case presentations

Recent advancements in virtual simulation have positioned VILS (vehicle-in-the-loop simulation) as an essential tool in automotive development, enabling precise testing and validation of various vehicle systems. Presentations by E-Intelligence, SI Italy, KATECH, Dankook University and Hyundai Motor Company highlighted the use of VILS, along with tools like CarMaker and Xpack4, for modeling off-highway vehicles, developing autonomous driving strategies, optimizing fuel efficiency and validating controllers. These innovations underscore the growing importance of virtual simulation tools in enhancing vehicle development processes, from strategy testing and load estimation to fuel optimization and controller validation, illustrating the diverse and innovative applications of IPG Automotive’s solutions in the automotive industry.
