Brake-in-the-Loop

Put real brake systems to the test

A reliable brake system is crucial for several reasons: First and foremost, efficient braking is crucial for safety in order to bring a vehicle to a standstill in emergency situations. In addition, the brakes are also responsible for maintaining control and performing precise maneuvers even in adverse weather conditions. Extensive tests are required to ensure the safety of brakes. With Brake-in-the-Loop, brake systems can be tested in a virtual environment with reproducible accuracy and without risk.

Who benefits from
Brake-in-the-Loop?

From OEMs to suppliers, development engineers for brakes (both in functional and component development) can use our test system individually

What is Brake-in-the-Loop?

Brake:

  • Stands for all types of brakes, including:
    • Conventional mechanical brake boosters (vacuum brake booster)
    • Electromechanical brake boosters
    • Electromechanical brakes (EMB) or electro-hydraulic brakes (EHB)
    • ECUs including anti-lock braking system (ABS)
    • Electronic stability control (ESC) and 3-in-1 brake ECU configurations
    • Motorized brake calipers and drums
    • Brake-by-wire systems
  • Also stands for the representation of a complete brake system (from brake disc to brake pedal actuation, including hydraulic lines, brake calipers, brake boosters and ECU for ESC/ABS functionalities)

In-the-Loop:

  • Refers to both open-loop and closed-loop test procedures for the development and validation of brake systems
  • Brake-in-the-Loop can be used to test and validate both control units and complete brake systems quickly and efficiently
  • Tests are carried out using virtual test driving on the test bench

How can Brake-in-the-Loop be used?

  • Testing and validation of real brake systems including all necessary hydraulic components (hydraulic lines, brake fluid, etc.) in open- and closed-loop maneuvers
  • Validation of brake ECU for partially to fully automated driving (level 3 to 5), including ABS, AEB, EBD, etc.
  • Fail-safe tests and functional tests in accordance with ISO 26262
  • Functional (objective evaluation) and performance tests to check driving behavior
  • Tests with highly dynamic driving maneuvers, high wear and tear, high loads on the vehicle, and more complex special tests
  • Interface available to connect with hot brake test benches
