On May 27, Synopsys and IPG Automotive hosted the hands-on workshop “Shift Left to Save Costs and Time” to showcase the potential of one of the most advanced toolchains: the seamless integration of Silver (Synopsys) and CarMaker. Participants gained exclusive insights into how virtual ECUs (vECUs) can be efficiently integrated to accelerate virtual test execution – an essential step toward early validation and reduced development efforts in vehicle engineering.
From simulation to application
The joint workshop welcomed eleven participants – primarily from the fields of testing and function validation – and offered practical experience in the application of vECUs.
Delivered in four thematically coordinated modules, alternately presented by Synopsys and IPG Automotive, the workshop covered various use cases for virtual ECUs. In addition to working with different levels of vECU detail, the focus included their deployment in virtual test driving and full-vehicle simulations. The program also provided valuable insights into cloud scaling and opportunities for test automation.
Hands-on sessions allowed participants to work directly with the software tools Silver and CarMaker on preconfigured virtual machines (hosted on AWS), solving smaller practical tasks along the way.
Feedback from the attendees was consistently positive. As Dipl.-Ing. Ankit Verma from AUDI AG summarized: "A helpful workshop with a good balance of theory and practice, which deepened the understanding of the simulation environment and the connected toolchain."
