As part of our sponsorship, IPG Automotive provide free CarMaker licenses to all participating teams, giving students direct access to industry-grade simulation tools used by OEMs and motorsport leaders around the world.
Supporting student innovation with CarMaker
Simulation has become a cornerstone of modern vehicle development, and CarMaker is at the forefront of that evolution. By offering teams a free license, we aim to give students the opportunity to:
- Develop and validate their vehicle concepts in a virtual environment
- Optimize setup parameters through detailed vehicle dynamics analysis
- Perform in-depth lap time simulations on real-world tracks
The IPG Lap Time Simulation competition
To further empower teams and encourage the creative application of simulation, we have continued with the IPG Lap Time Simulation (LTS) competition. This challenge invites participants to drive their models around a brand-new track using CarMaker.
The competition will reward not just speed, but also model accuracy, technical understanding, and strategic vehicle setup. With a new track to master, FS teams will present their simulations at the event in July at Silverstone Circuit.
Bridging academia and industry
Our sponsorship reflects our wish to connect academic potential with real-world automotive challenges. We believe that by providing tools, training, and industry insight, we can help student teams not only succeed in the competition but also prepare for impactful engineering careers. This year, we expand beyond Formula Student in the UK and sponsor the FS Alpe Adria in Croatia for the first time.
